In Sanda Cinto’s mural, Untitled, we get lost in a vortex of lines that push and pull in every direction. Her work conjures a multitude of images, reminiscent of waves cresting, rip currents, star formation, ripples in space-time, or electrical storms brewing. The invisible becomes visible as fields of energy seem to expand and contract. For Cinto, her work reinforces a kind of philosophy that each little mark is important, since “little details, little actions can change everything.” The viewer can be absorbed in the lines and details found in her work or step back and behold an undulating and pulsating landscape.

About the Artist – Cinto is a Brazilian artist, recognized internationally for her drawings and immersive installations in which she creates intricate and lyrical landscapes that teeter between real and imaginary. Greatly influenced by Theodore Gericault’s Raft of the Medusa (1819) and Japanese paintings and woodblock prints, Cinto uses drawing as her medium to depict the power and energy of the natural world. Sandra Cinto was born in 1968 in Santo Andre, Brazil, and currently lives and works in Sao Paulo.

Murals of La Jolla was founded by the La Jolla Community Foundation and is now a project of the Athenaeum. The goal of the mural project is to enhance the civic character of the community by commissioning public art projects on private property throughout La Jolla.
