The 96th Academy Awards nominations were revealed on January 23, 2024, by actors Zazie Beetz and Jack Quaid at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. The winners are set to be announced during the awards ceremony on March 10, 2024.

The cultural sensation “Barbenheimer” amassed a grand total of twenty-one nominations, with eight nods for Barbie and thirteen for Oppenheimer. The duo is vying against each other in six categories, including the prestigious Best Picture award.

Among the standout nominees are Steven Spielberg, who further solidified his record with a remarkable thirteen Best Picture nominations; Martin Scorsese, achieving his tenth nomination for Best Director and becoming the oldest nominee in the category; Thelma Schoonmaker, securing her ninth nomination for Best Film Editing; composer John Williams, earning his astounding 54th nomination; and Willie D. Burton, clinching his eighth nomination as a below-the-line crew member.

This year, ten actors earned their debut Oscar nominations. Among the acting nominees are portrayals by three openly LGBTQ+ actors: Colman Domingo, Jodie Foster, and Lily Gladstone. Notably, Gladstone also made history as the first Indigenous American actress to receive a nomination. Additionally, Scott George, the composer and lyricist of “Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People),” achieved a milestone as the first member of the Osage Nation to be nominated for an Academy Award.
